Pączki is a Polish pastry, not too far off from a doughnut. It’s deep fried dough filled with a cream or sweet jelly. They can be glazed or covered with a powdered sugar. They are typically eaten on Pączki Day in Poland, also known as Fat Tuesday, because their consumption was forbidden by the Catholic fasting practices during Lent. Frauenstein Castle (German: Burg Frauenstein) is a ruined castle in the town of Wiesbaden-Frauenstein in Hesse, Germany. It is not known who built Frauenstein Castle, but, based on dendrochronological evidence, its construction has been dated to around 1184.Built on a quartzite outcropping of the Spitzen Stein the castle was not intended as a defensive fortress, but rather as a watch-tower. It also served the tower guards as a dwelling. The construction of the castle with its high walls and battlements gave protection to farmers in the area and led to the emergence of the village of the same name. The Jenkinson House, or Jenkinson-Cady-Secory house in Port Huron, had been called out in Buildings of Michigan (Kathryn Bishop Eckert,1993:352): “This beautifully painted and restored house is Military Street’s largest and most ornate Queen Anne structure.”  With such an accolade coming from a former State Historic Preservation Officer, one would think that it would have been listed in the National Register of Historic Places by now, but no. The Obama family is devastated by the death of their personal chef, Tafari Campbell, who drowned while paddleboarding near their vacation home. Campbell, a former White House chef, disappeared while paddleboarding on a Martha’s Vineyard lake. Massachusetts State Police reported he struggled to stay afloat and then submerged. After an overnight search, his body was found. The Obamas expressed their grief, calling Campbell “a beloved part of our family.”

Simone Biles and Suni Lee won medals in the Olympic all-around final Thursday.  Biles won the gold medal and Lee earned the bronze.  At 27, Biles is the oldest Olympic women’s gymnastics champ since 1952. Biles edged Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade during a tense final.
