The vast chamber inside this abandoned cooling tower looks like something out of a sci-fi dystopia.  In a small neighborhood known as Monceau-sur-Sambre, within the Belgian town of Charleroi, sits an abandoned power station, the magnificent abandoned cooling tower of which still looms over the town no longer creating electricity, but providing plenty of dystopian vistas. One of the most important fortresses along the Danube now lies in ruins.  Fetislam is an Ottoman stronghold in ruins, situated near the city of Kladovo. Constructed during the Ottoman Empire’s reign in present-day Serbia, it served as a military outpost for Ottoman campaigns against Hungary. In a classic Joe Biden moment during the 2024 White House Easter Egg roll, President Biden approached a young girl at the event and, as often happens with little kids, she burst into tears.
