I Paid $6,500 for a Registered Black Angus Bull… and He Wouldn’t Even Look at a Cow

Posted on July 11, 2025

A few weeks ago, I made what I thought was a smart investment — I bought a registered Black Angus bull for $6,500. He was a fine-looking animal, strong build, good bloodline, and supposedly ready to get to work. Naturally, I was excited to introduce him to the herd.

But as the days passed, I noticed something odd.

Instead of doing what bulls are expected to do, he just grazed peacefully. Ate grass, wandered around, laid down… but didn’t show even the slightest interest in the cows. Not a sniff, not a glance, not a thing.

At first, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he was just settling in.

But after a week of zero action, I started to worry. Had I just blown $6,500 on a glorified lawnmower?

Time to Call the Vet

Not wanting to jump to conclusions, I called the vet to come check him out. After a full examination, the vet gave his verdict:

“He’s perfectly healthy. Just might be a bit young and shy. Let’s give him a little boost.”

He handed me a bottle of pills and told me to feed the bull one every day. Curious, I asked what they were.

“Just some supplements to help stimulate his hormones,” the vet said with a grin.

I had my doubts… but figured it was worth a shot.

What Happened Next Was Shocking

I gave the bull one pill that evening.

The next morning, he was a completely different animal.

He was up at sunrise, chasing the cows around like he had a full-time job to do. And not just our cows — he broke through the fence and visited the neighbor’s herd too.

He’s been working overtime ever since.

Moral of the Story?

Sometimes, all it takes is a little patience… and maybe a little help from science. I might’ve been worried at first, but now I think that $6,500 was money well spent. This bull’s earning his keep — and then some!

And in case you’re wondering — I still don’t know what was in those pills, but I’m starting to think they might be worth more than the bull himself.
