What was meant to be the beginning of a beautiful new chapter ended in a gruesome tragedy in the hills of Shillong, India. On May 20, 2025, businessman Raja Raghuvanshi arrived in the scenic hill station with his new bride, Sonam Raghuvanshi, for their honeymoon. Just days later, he was found dead—his decomposed body lying in a remote gorge, stripped of his identification, wedding ring, and dignity.
Initially, investigators suspected Raj Kushwaha, allegedly Sonam’s lover. But what seemed like a crime of passion soon unraveled into something far more sinister. According to police reports, Sonam was the mastermind behind her husband’s murder, orchestrating a chilling plot fueled by greed, deceit, and betrayal.
Wife Plots Husband’s Murder During Honeymoon
Authorities allege that Sonam manipulated Raj Kushwaha with false promises of love and recruited three other accomplices—Vishal Singh, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput—by offering them financial incentives. Phone and location tracking revealed Sonam actively shared Raja’s whereabouts with the killers.
Between May 23 and May 24, Raja was likely ambushed and pushed into the gorge. His body was discovered several days later, sparking a nationwide investigation.
Dark Secrets and a Second Betrayal
After the murder, Raj Kushwaha returned to Indore, expecting to reunite with Sonam. But she had a deeper, darker agenda. Authorities say Sonam was secretly involved with a third man and intended to eliminate Raj next.
The investigation culminated in Sonam’s arrest on June 8 after phone records and digital evidence pointed to her involvement. During interrogation, she confessed to masterminding the murder-for-money scheme that has since shocked the nation.
