While sitting on a bench, they spotted a peculiar little creature fully covered in soft fur. It resembled a harmless insect, and the children were curious to touch it. Leslie Howe had taken her baby and two other kids to Gwinnett County Park to enjoy a sunny day. As a young mother, she wanted to make the most of the beautiful weather with her children. However, Leslie’s maternal instincts kicked in, and she stopped her children from touching the unusual creature, sensing something was off. That was a very wise choice, as I later discovered just how dangerous this strange creature truly is. Leslie unknowingly protected her children from a poisonous bite. The creature turned out to be a “pus worm,” a unique type of caterpillar that, unlike regular ones, secretes venom and can inflict intense pain even from mere contact. If someone is bitten by this caterpillar, the consequences can be severe—leading to intense nausea and profuse sweating, making it a much more serious threat than it appears. Exercise extreme caution when spending time outdoors, especially in parks or areas with dense vegetation.
