This morning started like any other — coffee, routine scroll through emails, the usual shuffle to get ready for the day. But as I walked past the hallway, something immediately caught my eye.
Stuck to the wall — just above the baseboard — was something I know wasn’t there yesterday. About 8 centimeters long, soft-looking, almost organic in shape. Pinkish, irregular, with a texture somewhere between foam insulation and chewed gum. No smell, no movement, but definitely… out of place.
At first, I assumed it was some weird caulking residue or maybe leftover construction material. But I haven’t had any work done in weeks — and certainly not in that spot.
Naturally, I poked it. (Bad idea?)
It felt slightly firm but gave way under pressure, kind of spongy. Not sticky, but not dry either. Like it had just appeared — or been placed — not long ago.
The guesses so far
I snapped a photo and asked around. Here are the leading theories:
- Insect egg sac or cocoon
A few people immediately suggested some kind of insect or arachnid egg casing — possibly from a moth, spider, or wasp. The idea that something might hatch out of it definitely made me take a step back. - Fungal growth or slime mold
Another popular idea was that it’s a type of fungus or slime mold, especially given the strange texture and color. But it seemed too isolated for that — and too structured. - Spray foam insulation gone rogue
Some said it might just be construction foam leaking out from behind the drywall. But again, no recent renovations, and the color didn’t quite match any common insulation foam. - Animal-related
One person said it looked like regurgitated material — possibly from a rodent or bird that somehow got inside the wall. Gross, but possible. I haven’t seen or heard anything living in the house, though. - Paranormal / weird stuff corner
Because, of course, no strange discovery is complete without a few people insisting it’s an alien egg, a skin-shedding from a shapeshifter, or some kind of dimensional residue. Not helpful. Definitely creepy.
What I’ve done so far
- Took high-res photos from different angles
- Left it untouched since the initial poke
- Monitored it for any changes (color, size, movement — thankfully, none so far)
- Checked the area for entry points, leaks, insects, etc. Nothing.
I’m hesitant to remove it until I know more. For now, I’ve marked the spot and taped a ziplock bag loosely underneath it — just in case anything decides to drop out. You can never be too careful when nature (or something else) decides to get weird inside your home.
So… what is this?
If you’ve ever seen something like this — or know what might cause it — I’m open to any theories. Just hoping it’s not the start of something hatching, spreading… or moving.
