As my family and I sort through my late uncle’s estate, we’ve come across all kinds of treasures, keepsakes, and curiosities. But one item, tucked away inside a small wooden box, really has us scratching our heads.
It’s a strange little scoop — or maybe a spoon? — unlike anything we’ve seen before.
The scoop part is tiny, just about 0.25 inches wide, and the entire piece is about 4.75 inches long. At first glance, it almost looks like it could be some kind of measuring tool. But the real twist? The “handle” contains tiny metal balls that roll around freely inside. It’s both oddly precise and strangely playful.
Naturally, the first thing that came to mind was a coke spoon — but that might just be the result of watching too many crime dramas. We’re not sure if it’s medical, scientific, culinary, or something else entirely.
Here’s what we know:
- Found inside a wooden box, likely stored away for many years
- Scoop diameter: ~0.25″
- Length: ~4.75″
- Metal construction, with small rolling balls inside the handle
We’d love to hear your thoughts. Has anyone seen something like this before? Could it be an old lab tool, a part of a vintage kitchen set, or maybe even something ceremonial or artistic?
Any input or guesses — serious or humorous — are welcome. Sometimes the oddest objects have the most interesting stories.
