My Pinky Got Stuck in the Car Door — Now It’s Swollen and I Can’t Move It!

Last night, I accidentally caught my pinky in the car door. At first, I thought it was just a bruise… but now, it’s swollen, painful, and I can’t move it at all. I have no clue what’s happening, and it’s honestly freaking me out.

After some research (and advice from friends), it looks like my finger has an infection — probably from the trauma combined with bacteria getting in through the little cut or skin break. Here’s what people suggest for at-home care:

  • Drain it carefully: If there’s any visible pus, put a pin in it carefully and squeeze gently to remove the ick.
  • Saltwater soak: Dip the finger in hot water mixed with Epsom salt multiple times a day. The heat and salt help draw out the infection and reduce swelling.

  • Dress it properly: After soaking, wrap it with a clean dressing and keep it covered until the next treatment.
  • Repeat daily: Do this for about 2–3 days. Most mild infections start improving quickly.

Important: If the swelling, pain, or pus hasn’t improved by the end of day 2, or if the finger starts turning red or spreading pain, see a doctor immediately. Infections can get serious fast, especially in fingers.

Moral of the story: Even a tiny finger injury can turn into a nightmare if you ignore it. So be careful, clean it, and don’t underestimate the power of Epsom salt.
