Speaking on Fox News Channel, a psychotherapist named Jonathan Alpert explained that Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is not only a real disorder that is very present in America, but such a large problem that it ought be considered the defining pathology of our time, given how many people have been completely overtaken by it.
Such is what Alpert said when speaking to FNC personality Harris Faulkner, who asked him what he discerns when he identifies TDS in a patient. She asked, kicking off the crazy conversation, “First of all, identify it for us. You’re in a session, and you pick up on what?”
Responding, Alpert explained that he can tell what is going on pretty quickly, as people get fixated by Trump, and their obsession is a giveaway. He said, “It doesn’t take long for me to pick up on this. People are obsessed with Trump. They’re fixated. They’re hyper fixated on Trump, and they talk about some of the features of the of this disorder.”
Continuing, he explained that the sort of person who has TDS gets traumatized just by the existence of Mr. Trump, saying, “They can’t sleep. They feel traumatized by Mr. Trump. They feel restless. I had one patient who said she couldn’t enjoy a vacation because anytime she saw Trump in the news or on her device, she felt triggered. So this is a profound pathology, and I would even go so far as to call it the defining pathology of our time.”
Following up, Faulkner asked him what it is he discerns about the people with the issue, asking, “These people come to you for the things that you described. Can’t sleep, traumatize, perhaps depression. I don’t want to put words in your mouth, but at first, you are there to treat an illness, a disorder of some kind, and what you figure out is the trigger?”
Responding, Alpert explained that it is President Trump who is the trigger, which shows just how much America has changed and fallen, saying, “Well and Trump is the trigger for many of these people, and to be that fixated on a figure, on a person, it’s simply not healthy. And our country has strayed so far away from where we once were.”
Giving an example, Alpert pointed to what it was like when Reagan was shot, saying, “If you look at in the 80s, when President Reagan was was shot, people were united. He famously said, ‘I hope you’re all Republicans’ to the to the surgeons, and that the response was, ‘Today, Mr. President, we’re all Republicans,’ but our country has lost that. We’re straight so far from that unity.”

Getting him back to TDS and what it is like, given that he has said so many of his patients are afflicted by it, she asked, “And what do you see? Because you say, you told me off camera, three-quarters of your patient load right now has what you’re calling this, this, TDS?”
Summarizing what TDS is like, Alpert told her, “Well, three-quarters of my patients will present with a lot of these symptoms, and within probably five minutes of seeing me, their hatred for Trump comes up. So if you’re that hyper-focused on Trump, that’s a real issue, and it’s worth being treated.”
