THE STORY BEHIND THE BICYCLE IN THE TREE ON VASHON ISLAND, WA

Famous through many reaches of the internet for its obscurity and uniqueness, the curious bicycle in the tree is deserving of an equally obscure and unique history. For this reason, there are many variations of its origins. One of the more popular tales passed between locals, tourists, and far off enthusiasts is a short and elusive tale of a young man and his beloved bike. This version of the story claims that circa 1914 a local boy, enlisted in the United States military to help fight in World War I, abandoned his cherished bike resting on a tree limb in an island forest he frequented. Over the years the tree slowly grew around and consumed the bike, creating the impressive phenomenon we bear witness to today. This concise and evocative tale draws allure from the parts of the story left untold. Did this island boy ever return from the war? Did he return to the island having forgotten about this bike? Is this boy’s family still connected to the island? If so, what do they have to say about this mysterious story? How did the tree grow around this bicycle? Why was a bike in good condition left to live… CONTINUE READING…

PEPPER STEAK IN A CROCK POT

Pepper Steak in a Crock Pot is a savory and satisfying meal that brings the rich flavors of tender beef sirloin, bell peppers, and tomatoes together in a delicious slow-cooked dish. This recipe is perfect for busy individuals who want a hearty meal with minimal effort. Using a crock pot ensures that the beef becomes incredibly tender, and the flavors meld beautifully over several hours of cooking. Here’s a detailed guide on how to prepare this delightful dish. Ingredients: Directions: 1. Season and Sear the Beef: Begin by sprinkling the beef sirloin strips with garlic powder. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear the beef strips for about 5 minutes on each side until they are browned. This step helps to lock in the juices and adds a depth of flavor to the dish. 2. Prepare the Bouillon Mixture: In a separate container, dissolve the beef bouillon cube in hot water. Once dissolved, mix in the cornstarch until it forms a smooth mixture. This will act as a thickening agent for the sauce, ensuring it coats the beef and vegetables well. 3. Combine Ingredients in the Crock Pot: Transfer the seared beef strips to the… CONTINUE READING…

An ode to the Saturday matinees of the 1950s

An ode to the Saturday matinees of the 1950s

Stephen Wade recalls growing up in the matinee days of the 1950s, when a trip to the cinema brought big-screen thrills and the occasional spot of real-life danger. My grandma tried to snuff me out twice. I have read about the large families of Edwardian days, and of infant mortality rates being frighteningly high, but looking back, I see that my relatives tried to make us kids yet more statistics – but they did it with love. The second attempt on my life took place in the Shaftesbury Cinema in Leeds, and the weapon of choice was the boiled sweet. I recall lying on the marbled floor of the vestibule, staring up at half-a-dozen adult faces, all concerned about me as I fought for breath. In the excitement of watching Don Winslow of the Navy take on a few dozen sword-wielding tribesmen on the big screen, the great sugary ball had slipped down my throat and stuck. What was to be done? There were appeals for medical people but none came. I was maybe turning blue. But then the manager arrived, dragged me to my feet, hit me on the back with the force of a crossbow bolt, and the… CONTINUE READING…

Many have advertised T-shirts featuring the iconic photo of Trump raising his fists in the air during the shooting at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday. Famous content creators, the Hodge Twins, posted on X (formerly Twitter) photos of shirts stating, “100% of profits from this shirt go to Trump’s campaign.” Another post on X shows a man wearing a shirt with the same image, captioned, “They already got the picture of Trump getting shot at on T-shirts in stores.” Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy also advertised the same shirt for sale on his company’s website. The attacker, who the Secret Service killed, marked the first assassination attempt on a president or presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan in 1981. According to the Associated Press, a local prosecutor reported that the suspected gunman and at least one rally attendee are dead. FOX News initially reported that two others were dead, but the Secret Service clarified that two others were injured. In a statement on social media, Trump said he was “shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.” It… CONTINUE READING…

Biden Finally Releases Statement Nearly 2 Hours After Trump Rally Shooting, Declines To Call It An ‘Assassination Attempt’

President Joe Biden took a significant amount of time to release a statement on Saturday after an apparent assassination attempt against President Donald Trump was shot at a political rally in Pennsylvania. “I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania,” Biden said nearly two hours after the incident happened. “I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.” “Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety,” he added. “There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.” Biden made subsequent remarks during a live press conference where, at the end of the event, he refused to call it an “assassination attempt.” The sound of shots rang out as Trump appeared to grab around near his ear and he quickly dropped to the ground as he was instantly swarmed by Secret Service agents. Once Secret Service agents got him up, they were in the process of rushing him off stage when he stopped them so he could deliver… CONTINUE READING…

He had a rifle; you could clearly see him with a rifle, absolutely” “The police were down there running around on the ground. “THAT WAS US”

Posted on July 10, 2024July 10, 2024 By sg4vo No Comments on “THAT WAS US”
“THAT WAS US”

I didn’t write this… A Poem “THAT WAS US” A little house with three bedrooms, One bathroom and one car on the street A mower that you had to push To make the grass look neat. In the kitchen on the wall We only had one phone, And no need for recording things, Someone was always home. We only had a living room Where we would congregate, Unless it was at mealtime In the kitchen where we ate. We had no need for family rooms Or extra rooms to dine. When meeting as a family Those two rooms would work out fine. We only had one TV set And channels maybe two, But always there was one of them With something worth the view For snacks we had potato chips That tasted like a chip. And if you wanted flavor There was Lipton’s onion dip. Store-bought snacks were rare because My mother liked to cook And nothing can compare to snacks In Betty Crocker’s book Weekends were for family trips Or staying home to play We all did things together – Even go to church to pray. When we did our weekend trips Depending on the weather, No one stayed… CONTINUE READING…
