This once-beautiful Greek Revival mansion in Uniontown, Alabama looks like it’s being swallowed up by the earth, and its tragic past certainly lives up to the haunting aesthetic. In January of 1994, the remains of 13-year-old Allan Lucy were found buried beneath the front porch of the Hardie-Coleman House—or, as it’s better known online, the Lucy Murder House. Allan, who lived in the home with his adoptive parents, Phillip and Margaret Lucy, disappeared without a trace in May of 1985. In the months that followed, Jason Lucy, Phillip and Margaret’s biological son, told classmates that his father killed Allan and buried him in the backyard. For years, no one believed Jason’s story, even though rumors about the Lucy family swirled around town long before Allan disappeared. Decades after Allan Lucy’s murderer was brought to justice, the house has still not recovered—largely due to environmental injustices that have driven many residents out of Uniontown and left those who remain fighting for justice of their own. We live in a society that tends to think of itself as being rather inclusive and they may even think that we don’t judge people any longer. The fact of the matter is, however, many people do ‘judge a book by its cover’ and will size someone up by simply taking a glance in their direction. If you take a moment to look behind the scenes and really get to know somebody, however, you might be surprised with what you find. This type of situation came up when a young farmer moved from North Dakota to Florida. He was just starting out at a job and his boss yelled at him but when you read his reply, you will see why this is the funniest joke you will hear all day. A young guy from North Dakota moves to Florida and goes to a big “everything under one roof” department store looking for a job. One of the more difficult jobs we may do is working on a ranch. The days are long, and the weather is not always cooperative. Even working with the animals may be enjoyable, but that is hard work, and most people are not typically up to the challenge. In the following joke, we hear about a man who got hired as a ranch hand. He wasn’t necessarily the person you would first think of as taking on such employment, but he did a good job. That was, until he returned home late one night from a trip into town. A successful rancher died and left everything to his devoted wife. The Marine’s Unexpected Adventure An old, blind Marine, who had recently retired after a distinguished career, found himself wandering into an all-girl biker bar by mistake. A teenage father with ‘DEVAST8’ tattooed across his face is ‘waiting for the right job offer’ after his desperate plea for work went viral – and he has revealed he will be getting the jailhouse ink lasered off. One of the most spectacular archeological discoveries in recent years has been the recovery of a ship in a southwest African desert that went missing five centuries ago and had gold coins on board. The departure of a Portuguese warship from Lisbon took place on March 7, 1533. Its whereabouts remained unknown until 2008, when its bones were discovered while diamond mining along the coast of Namibia. As it traveled towards India, a strong storm caused it to capsize, taking riches such as copper and gold ingots with it. On board the ship, two thousand pieces of pure gold and tens of thousands of pounds of copper ingots were recovered, practically all of which were found intact. In addition to cash, the ship located in the desert held a large cargo. According to Dr. Noli, senior archaeologist of the Southern Africa Institute of Maritime Archaeological Research, the discovery of a shipwreck is not surprising, considering storms have recently been known to lash the beach.
