I’m no hero, says officer slashed in Hainault sword attack

A police officer who bravely confronted attacker Marcus Monzo after the tragic killing of schoolboy Daniel Anjorin in Hainault, east London, says he doesn’t consider himself a hero. Inspector Moloy Campbell faced Monzo directly during the April 2024 incident, sustaining a hand injury while attempting to disarm the suspect, who was wielding a samurai sword. Despite his own injuries, Insp Campbell humbly credits his team for their bravery, saying, “My officers were undoubtedly heroic in their efforts to stop the attack.” Reflecting on the confrontation, he told the BBC: “It was pure instinct — fight or flight — and in that moment, I chose to fight.
