WASHINGTON – With just 90 days to go until the 2024 presidential election, Vice President Kamala Harris announced who would be running on the ticket with her.  Speculation about who Harris would choose as her running mate began within days of President Joe Biden’s announcement that he was dropping out of the race and instead endorsing his VP, and with that came a spate of polls considering who would best bolster Harris’ chances against former President Donald Trump. Harris selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to join the ticket. During the January 10th White House Press Briefing, Fox News Channel White House Correspondent Peter Doocy pressed White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre over the relationship between Hunter Biden and his father, President Joe Biden. His important line of questioning about what, if anything, Joe helped Hunter do led to a lengthy back-and-forth spat that ended in KJP trying to move on as other reporters laughed. That spat began with Doocy asking about Hunter Biden’s appearance on Capitol Hill. As background, Hunter Biden had appeared before the House Oversight Committee, then left within minutes as Reps. Nancy Mace and Marjorie Taylor Greene directed angry remarks his way. Rep. MTG later claimed that Hunter was “terrified” of what she might ask him. In any case, that incident from earlier in the morning was on everyone’s mind when Doocy asked the press secretary, “And Hunter Biden on Capitol Hill today. How big of a headache is that for you?” Sensing the humor in the question because of Hunter Biden’s antics, others in the room laughed. But KJP didn’t laugh nor did she play along. Appearing on Seth Meyers’ late-night show, NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” President Joe Biden spread a false claim about former President Donald Trump in an attempt to prove his claim that Trump is the one who is really suffering from mental decline. The president then proceeded to lose his train of thought, still while trying to attack Trump’s mental sharpness. That began when the host, Seth Meyers, raised the concern of many voters over Biden’s age, noting that it has become a “real concern for American voters.” Continuing, Mr. Meyers asked Biden how he plans to convince American voters that he is something other than senile and, despite his age, is able to run the country. Biden responded with an attempted attack on Trump that ended quite poorly for him. Beginning, Biden let loose with a false claim about Trump supposedly not being able to remember Melania’s name. He said, “number one, you’ve got to take a look at the other guy. Recently, a hilarious parody campaign ad for Vice President Kamala Harris was released and has taken the internet by storm.  Since Harris has stepped up as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee after President Joe Biden announced he would be dropping out of the 2024 race, she has faced intense scrutiny as the American public assesses the prospect of her running the country. The video, which was either created with artificial intelligence or a highly skilled voice actor, addresses several prominent criticisms of Harris. It opens by suggesting she was launching her presidential bid because of Biden’s apparent “senility.”  It further highlights her status as a minority and a woman, playing off arguments that Harris was a “DEI” selection as Biden’s running mate. “I, Kamal Harris, and your Democrat candidate for president because Joe Biden finally exposed to senility debate,” the video opened, addressing the president’s infamously bad performance during the presidential debate in late June, which ostensibly ended his participation in the 2024 race.   Following the debate, Biden faced calls from Democrats to step down for weeks leading up to his decision to withdraw. Surreal riveted sea forts once protected the Kent shores from German attack.  Rising from the water like rusty invaders out of H.G. Wells, the Maunsell Army Forts in the Thames Estuary are decaying reminders of the darkest days of World War II. Part of the Thames Estuary defense network, the anti-aircraft tower-forts were constructed in 1942, with each fort consisting of a cluster of seven stilted buildings surrounding a central command tower. When operational, catwalks connected the buildings. Built on land and then transported to their watery homes, the forts were designed by Guy Maunsell, a British civil engineer, later known for innovations in concrete bridge design. Originally there were three of these forts, but only two are left standing: the Redsands Fort and the Shivering Sands Fort. After their successful wartime career, the forts were decommissioned in the 1950s. The Nore Army Fort was badly damaged by both a storm and being struck by a ship and was dismantled in 1959-60. In the 1960s and 70s, the remaining abandoned forts were famously taken over as pirate radio stations. In another rare public appearance for former First Lady Melania Trump, who appears to have been staying at the family’s New York City residence in Trump Tower in the weeks following the former president’s shocking conviction on all 34 felony counts brought against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, stunned with her tasteful and beautiful outfit. As background, Melania has not been very present during this election cycle, with Trump saying that she is more of a private person but will do what she can to help the country success. The vast chamber inside this abandoned cooling tower looks like something out of a sci-fi dystopia.  In a small neighborhood known as Monceau-sur-Sambre, within the Belgian town of Charleroi, sits an abandoned power station, the magnificent abandoned cooling tower of which still looms over the town no longer creating electricity, but providing plenty of dystopian vistas. Power Plant IM was originally built in 1921 and when it was finished, it was one of the largest coal-burning power plants in Belgium. Water would be let into the cooling tower where it would be cooled by the wind that swept in from portals in the base of the tower, releasing billowing columns of hot air. By 1977 the power plant and its massive tower was the main source of energy in the Charleroi area and is said to have been able to cool down 480,000 gallons of water per minute. By the 1970s new components were even added to the power plant that could also use gas power. However, the power plant’s days in the sun were numbered. One of the most important fortresses along the Danube now lies in ruins.  Fetislam is an Ottoman stronghold in ruins, situated near the city of Kladovo. Constructed during the Ottoman Empire’s reign in present-day Serbia, it served as a military outpost for Ottoman campaigns against Hungary. Built in 1524 under the directive of Suleiman the Magnificent, the fortress comprises of two sections, namely the “small city” and the “big city,” which were built during two different epochs. The name “Fetislam” originates from a Turkish term denoting the defender of the faith or the triumph of Islam, something like the “gate of Islam.” The part of the fortress known as “small city,” initially constructed in the 16th century, faced destruction by hajduks (outlaw highwaymen from all over the Balkans who targeted Ottomans in defense of Christians) in a single assault, leading to abandonment for a period. A subsequent fortification known as the “great fortress,” however, was soon erected in the 18th century. Throughout the 19th century’s array of Serbian-Turkish conflicts, the complex changed hands between Serbs and Turks.
